The company recognises that it has to consistently re-evaluate and where necessary, evolve its approach to its relationships with private farmers, suppliers, customers and other stakeholders. Tongaat Hulett views its role as providing suitable support to those who research, farm and supply the raw materials that it uses across its operations. As the business continues to progress in this area, this will facilitate three types of sustainability: the sustainability of farmers’ livelihoods and the communities that surround them, the sustainability of its supply of sugarcane and maize and the sustainability of natural resources in the growing areas.
