Overview

Tongaat Hulett Botswana is a sugar packaging and distribution business which sources its brown and white sugar from our operations in SADC. Their Blue Crystal® brand is the country’s top sugar brand. Commonly known as “Sukiri ya Batswana”, it was recognised in 2020 as the fifth best African brand in Botswana.

While the business was incorporated in 1984, Tongaat Hulett acquired majority shares and renamed the operations to Tongaat Hulett (Botswana) (Pty) Ltd in 2008. At start-up, a decision was taken that Blue Crystal Sukiri should adopt the national colours of the Botswana flag. Permission was obtained from the Office of the President and the Blue Crystal brand was born.

In 1992 the company relocated from Francistown to Lobatse. It is staffed 100% by citizens, further entrenching our reputation as a proudly Botswana brand.
